Sheriff: Man arrested for stealing Mardi Gras party supplies, caught with …

A New Orleans man was arrested after he was accused of stealing five cases of beer, water and numerous meat items from Walmart on Cortana Place. The items totaled to more than $ 250. The man told police he stole the items to get ready for Mardi Gras.

The man, now identified as 42-year-old William Dueward Bartholomew of New Orleans, walked into the store and proceeded to the grocery department. According to the affidavit of probable cause from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, he placed all of the items in a shopping cart and walked out of the store without paying for the items.

The loss prevention officer identified themselves to Bartholomew, and reports say he took off running. The loss prevention officer radioed the deputy.

When the deputy located Bartholomew, he told him to stop running but he refused. There was a small pursuit with Bartholomew on foot and the deputy in his vehicle. The deputy got out of his vehicle and took Bartholomew into custody.
